    Music

Vem records Armenian sacred music (sharakans) at Vem Recordings Studio, with the purpose of creating a comprehensive compilation of Armenian spiritual music. The recordings are done with the best choirs and soloists. In 2005, Vem released “The Way” album of Armenian sharakans, performed by the acclaimed Hover Chamber Choir of Armenia, and “De Profundis”, with soloists Anahit Papayan, Lusine Ghazarian and the Hover Chamber Choir. In 2007, Vem Recordings published the album of the renowned Komitas State Quartet, including masterpieces by the leading contemporary Armenian composers.

Vem has recorded a high quality CD of Armenian sharakans performed by the legendary Hilliard Ensemble in Saghmosavank, an historic Armenian 12th Century Monastery. Vem was instrumental in bringing this world renowned ensemble of the UK to Armenia in 2003.

    Khachaturian Trio
    Khachaturian Trio

Arno Babadjanyan and Dmitry Shostakovich, Arshile Gorky and Marc Chagall, Grigor Narekatsi and Nikolay Gumilyev… an impressive crossroad of arts opens before our view, where music comes first (design of the album by Alexander Davidyan).

Aram Khachaturian's Trio is among the most resonant voices in the Armenian musical reality nowadays. Armine Grigoryan (piano), Karen Shahgeldyan (violin) and Karen Kocharyan (cello) – these are names of musicians whose work has been the appraisal of high art. The album is a unique report of the ensemble’s 10 years of activity. Arno Babadjanyan’s fis-moll and Dmitri Shostakovich’s No. 2, e-moll trios were recorded in 2009, at Aram Khachaturian house-museum (Sound engineer – Madat Avanesov).

In the enclosed English-language booklet, musicologist, Ph.D. in Arts, Prof. Svetlana Sargsyan presents the performers, the composers and their two trios. The photos were done by Vigen Mnoyan. The CD was recorded with Assadour Guselian’s generous support.
